Everything In Life Is Learnt

Everybody learns every day. You do and I do, no matter how small. What you learn daily shapes your life, your career, your marriage, your actions, your behaviors and even your environment. What you learn invariably affects every facet of your life.

Everything you do in this life is a product of knowledge, what you have learnt over time. The knowledge you apply in your daily endeavors brings the results you envision and that is what shapes your life. The level you are right now is a product of the knowledge you’ve acquired over time, from the moment of your birth to your present age.

Babies learn to smile, to crawl, to walk, to talk, to eat by themselves, to express themselves, etc right from their birth and they keep learning till they grow into adults and have to keep learning to live life.

Doctors learn to save lives, farmers learn to plant crops to feed the populace, writers learn to weave their words together in a way that is appealing to their readers, mechanics learn to repair cars; every vocation in this life has to be learnt, no matter how small or ‘simple’.

Let’s think about this simple analogy: to enjoy a game of football, you need to learn what the play by play means. If a player on the field passes the ball to the opponent team, you need to learn how it will affect the game, when a player falls down or is injured by another player, you learn what it means and how action will determine the outcome. Every single move or act is learnt just to enjoy a simple game of football.

Now, let’s take it up another notch and examine the profession of a doctor. For a doctor to save lives, they have to learn how a life can be taken, they have to learn how to cut to heal, they have to learn how to examine the body to proffer a solution to a disease, they have to learn every minuscule part of the body so as to know how it functions.

In our everyday lives too, we learn to care for our family in order to have a peaceful home, you learn how to change a tire when it needs to be done so your car can be useful, you learn to cook so as to eat and keep healthy thereby staying alive, you learn to talk to customers and clients and you learn how to ply your trade to bring utmost profitability.

To learn, you have to be observant, open your eyes to opportunities, open your minds to new horizons, think deeply, ask questions, use all your senses, research your answers and always generate and deploy value.

Limits to your knowledge…. Limits to your life.

EVERYONE has limitations in life! You do! I do! Everyone you and I know does.

The limitations in our lives are directly proportional to the limits of our knowledge.

The point you are in your life right now is as a result of what you know. Rich or poor, brilliant or dull, happy or sad, influential or ineffectual, it’s all a direct result of how much you know.

There are several limits in every part of our lives that hinder us, circumstances that draw us back from achieving our goals and fulfilling our dreams. These usually present themselves as insurmountable obstacles that cannot be overcome, hence, we say our dreams cannot be achieved, we are reaching too high or our dreams are too big. These limits can be our finances, relationships, time, environment, circumstances or our level of education.

No dream is too big to achieve. It’s what you know that opens doors to you.

I heard of the story of Dayo some years back. Dayo had a dream, he had a ‘big’ dream so to speak but there were ‘limits’ to him achieving these goals.

Dayo wanted to be a lawyer, but he was from a very poor home. His parents were absolutely indigent and they could not afford to send him to the university so he gave up on his dream. If he had a knowledgeable person around him, he could have been informed that if he did well in secondary school, he could have applied for a scholarship and won it; he could have reached out to organizations that specialize in scholarships, and today he could have been a lawyer. How sad, one lawyer less in the society simply due to the lack of know-how. Today, he is a cab driver and feels dissatisfied whenever he sees people in wig and gown. Knowledge made the difference in his life.

Limits to your knowledge is limit to your quality of life, limits to your knowledge is limits to your earnings, limits to your knowledge is limits in your marriage, limits to your knowledge is limits to how you train your children, limits to your knowledge is the limits to your influence and impact, and limits to your knowledge is limits to achieving your dreams.

There’s a saying in the bible that I always apply to every situation in life and I have found it to be accurate over time. It says, “my people perish for lack of knowledge”, which I find very apt. I want to liken perish in this instance to limited money, limited influence and limited breakthrough. ‘My people have limited money, limited influence and limited breakthrough for lack of knowledge.’

Knowledge is very essential in every situation in life, it is necessary if we are to have any lasting impact on our generation.

For example, a mother needs to know how to care for a baby to be a good mother; we all need to know how to make money from our communities. Young graduates need to know how to present themselves as productive workers, we need to know people everywhere as we grow older, we need to know how to negotiate, how to buy and sell, how to get funding from banks and other sources, how to manage a home, how to maintain a car, how to drive, etc there are millions of things we need to know in order to take the limits off our lives and the time to start knowing is now.

In these days of the internet, knowing opportunities are easily within reach on our phones, computers and tablets. To know more, we can learn from mentors and teachers, magazines and books and also from just observing.

Therefore, whenever you have an opportunity to learn, actively do so, because those things you learn will determine the scope of your wealth and influence. Know that, whenever you learn, you earn.

Every scrap of knowledge you garner is akin to money earned, just like money in the bank, saving for the future.

Imagine that every new thing learnt is like a dollar earned. So if in a day, you learn three hundred new things, these are three hundred dollars in the bank. Three hundred dollars earned in a day, just from learning, that’s cool money.

So, start thinking limitless.
